National Bingo Caller Of The Year 2008

All across the country bingo callers have been preparing themselves for the National Bingo Caller of the Year award and practicing their bingo calls and the banter with their customers and it there will definitely be some hotly contended Regional Finals throughout September and October with the National Final taking place in November.
The dates for the National Bingo Caller regional finals are:
- Wednesday, September 10th – North East
- Thursday, September 11th – North West
- Thursday, September 18th – Midlands
- Friday, September 19th – Wales
- Monday, September 29th – Scotland
- Friday, October 3rd – South
National Bingo Caller Finals will take place in London on 29th and 30th November.
I was reading through the National Bingo web page and came across some interesting facts about the competition.
- Since the competition began there have been a total of 78 regional championships.
- Winners to date have been produced by Independent bingo clubs five times, Gala Bingo clubs four times and Mecca Bingo twice
- There have been no less than nine celebrity hosts of the competition

- 1996 & 1999 – Barbara Windsor
- 2000 – Samantha Janus
- 2001 – Charlie Dimmock
- 2003 – Lorraine Kelly
- 2004 – Leslie Phillips

- 34 million people tuned into watch the competition on their television screens in 2007
- 7.5 hours of radio airtime was dedicated to the competition in 2007 with a total of 25 million listeners
- 60 local newspapers produced articles about their regional finals and winner back in 2007
- The World Wide Web saw 50 independent websites write articles about the competition back in 2007

The whole process for bingo callers wishing to enter the competition seems very exciting with the contestants being judged on all aspects of bingo calling as well as their personalities and characters.
