Keith Chegwin Puts His Foot In It

People of a certain age will no doubt remember Keith Chegwin. Back in the eighties he was one of the best known faces on television starring in Cheggers Plays Pop and Swap Shop. Sadly the in the nineties his career took a bit of a nose dove and we saw a little too much of him in the Channel five flop (pardon the pun) The Naked Jungle. Slowly but surely he is working his way back into the public eye and has recently starred in Noels HQ on Sky One. What you may not know though is he is also a bit of a successful business man away from the TV screens and even owns his own bingo site on the St Minver network. It was because of this association with bingo that I found a recent article in the Telegraph very interesting reading because Keith Chegwin puts his foot in it.

The article in question appeared in the Personal Finance section of The Telegraph on the 10th February and was a general interview with Chegwin about his business life and investments and how he has always been shrewd with his money. When asked in the article if he banked online he goes on to answer that he doesn’t because he does not believe the internet is safe and his experience owning an online bingo site has shown him how many people try to play online using stolen credit card details, he says “What I have seen is enough to put anyone off”
This is a big mistake on two fronts. Firstly why should anyone now want to play on CheggersBingo when even the bingo sites owner does not feel secure and secondly is his software provider going to think when they read this? And how could this have a knock on effect for other sites on the same network.
Personally I feel he wrong, you have more security using a credit card online then you do in a shop where anyone can pick up a credit card slip and have you number plus a copy of your signature. I regularly use the St Minver sites and have never had a problem. If you fancy giving them a try for yourself I suggest Ann Summers Bingo for a bit of adult fun!
