888 Holdings Introduce Self Exclusion

We all know how easy it is to get carried away when playing online bingo. I know from personal experience that sometimes you get that little voice at the back of your head telling you that maybe if you wagered just ten more pounds you could win that progressive jackpot and most of your financial problems could be solved. It is when you can’t ignore this voice that you may have a problem.

Gambleaware is a website that is managed by the Responsibility in Gambling Trust, an independent charity which funds treatment, research and education about responsible gambling. On their site they have a checklist that will help you recognise if you have a problem. These signs include:

  • Spending more money and time on gambling than you can afford.

  • Finding it hard to manage or stop your gambling.

  • Having arguments with family or friends about money and gambling.

  • Losing interest in usual activities or hobbies like going out with friends or spending time with family.

  • Always thinking or talking about gambling.

  • Lying about your gambling or hiding it from other people.

  • Chasing losses or gambling to get out of financial trouble.

  • Gambling until all of your money is gone.

  • Borrowing money, selling possessions or not paying bills in order to pay for gambling.

  • Needing to gamble with larger amounts of money or for a longer time to get the same feeling of excitement or buzz.

  • Neglecting work, school, family, personal needs or household responsibilities because of gambling.

  • Feeling anxious, worried, guilty, depressed or irritable.

There is also a totally confidential self assessment form which can be found HERE.

What you probably do not know is that bingo sites give a percentage of their profits to fund such organisations. 888 Holdings (who’s sites include Foxy Bingo, Wink Bingo and 888ladies) have this week gone one step further to help people who feel their gambling may be becoming a problem and are now offering self exclusion.

Players can now simply log into their account on any of the 888 Holdings web bingo sites and exclude themselves from the site for a period of time; 24 hours, one week, one month, six months or close their account indefinitely. The site also warns you that this exclusion is site specific, so if you are a member of more then one 888 Holdings site you will need to exclude yourself from them all.

Whether this will work in the long term only time will tell but it is great to see sites making a conscientious effort to help their players in times of need; it shows that brand loyalty flows both ways. Let’s just hope the rest of the industry follows suit soon.
